Challenge Five- Collaborate

Your fifth challenge is to collaborate online.  A wiki is one tool on the Web that allows collaboration.  Watch this short video to understand what a wiki is.



Challenge 5- Option A 
To get started collaborating using one of the most famous wikis, Wikipedia, try this exercise:
  1. Go to Wikipedia.  Wikipedia is a free online encyclopedia that anyone can edit.  
  2. Find an article on a topic you know a lot about or can research to become knowledgeable.
  3. Read the article to see if there are any inaccuracies.
  4. If there are, correct them by editing the page (Required!).
  5. If there are no inaccuracies that you can find, add some detail to the article.  
  6. Tell us about your experience on your blog by creating a post.
    • Required!- title this post Challenge Five- Wikipedia Edit or something similar.
    • Required!- label this post Technology Challenge or something similar (the same label you created in Challenge One) in order to help your readers find posts dedicated to completing one of the challenges in your blog.
    • Required!- insert a hyperlink to the Wikipedia article you edited in the post. 
    • Required!- quote the entirety of your edit of in your post.
    •  Required!- write about your experience using Wikipedia and potential classroom use or impact.
OR 

Challenge 5- Option B
You can create your own personal wiki web site using a service like Wikispaces or PB Works.  To explore PB Works, do the following:
  1. Go to http://dpsweb2pointoh.pbworks.com.
    • The goal of this wiki is to have teachers collaborate on which and how Web 2.0 resources can be used in different areas of the NCSCOS, all while learning how to use a wiki!
  2. Join the workspace.

  3. Once you have a username and password, login, do the following:
    • Login
    • Required!- click on your subject area to view a page.  Click Edit and add a resource and how it can be used.
  4. Create a post on your blog to share your thoughts and experiences with http://dpsweb2pointoh.pbworks.com (Required!).
    • Required!- title this post Challenge Five- Web 2.0 Wiki Edit or something similar.
    • Required!- label this post Technology Challenge (the same label you created in Challenge One) or something similar in order to help your readers find posts dedicated to completing one of the challenges in your blog.
    • Required!- insert a hyperlink in your post to the http://dpsweb2pointoh.pbworks.com article you edited. 
    • Required!- quote the entirety of your edit of in your post.
    •  Required!- write about your experience using PB Wiki and potential classroom use or impact.
OR

Challenge 5- Option C

You can create a document (or a spreadsheet, form, presentation, etc.) in Google Docs and share it with someone else with a Google account and collaborate on it.  
  1. Go to http://docs.google.com and sign in with your Google account username and password. 
  2. Create a Google document (Required!) (document, spreadsheet, form, spreadsheet, drawing, etc.) and share it with one or more collaborator.  
  3. Share your document by making it public (Required!).
  4. Create a blog post showcasing your work and sharing your thoughts (Required!)
    • Required!- title this post Challenge Five- Google Docs Collaboration or something similar.
    • Required!- label this post Technology Challenge (the same label you created in Challenge One) or something similar in order to help your readers find posts dedicated to completing one of the challenges in your blog.
    • Required!- insert a hyperlink to the Google Docs document in the post that you made public.
    •  Required!- write about your experience using Google Docs and potential classroom use or impact.
